The Start Line

“Community” is etched behind the eyelids of every member of the Bicicletta team, and with our website we can now finally step beyond our doorstep and onto your screens! We are going to provide you with news, views, info and recipes, and we’ll help you get to know the team behind the ‘B’.

We are all very excited about the community we have been developing since the beginning of April and massive thanks go to all who have been a part of our formative weeks. It’s been a fantastic journey so far.

We all met for the first time at the very end of March, at the beginning of our opening week, in an empty shop. I think we’re all still recovering from the whirlwind of barista training, absorbing instruction manuals, and unpacking and stocking the shop. We didn’t have long, but we made it happen and opened for the first time on April 2nd.

That first weekend couldn’t have gone much better. With just a few days of coffee-making under our belts we were kept very busy by cyclists, locals and even Jamie Oliver! All of whom came in to sample our wonderful coffee, roasted at Hot Numbers in Cambridge, and our irresistible locally-baked cakes from Kate & Alice Hampers and Musette & Baker.

Since opening our doors for the first time, we have expanded our team, developed our cafe offering, practised our Latte art (ask Marlon!), welcomed charity rides, and hosted rides and events for the local community. Almost two months in, we were nominated in two categories at the Coffee Stops UK Awards. We were delighted to scoop up second place in the Best Cycling Cafe category and are hugely grateful for all the votes we received.

The shop and cafe are doing well, and now we are moving into our next phase; our website. It will be your perfect pitstop for picking up a new jersey, or replenishing your ride nutrition and accessories. In our blog section you can read about best cycling practice, training, product reviews, event and/or ride recaps and recipes for you to try. You will be able to join the Bicicletta community in order to access routes and share stories with other members. If you want to find out more about our coffee and cakes, you will find a wealth of information to get your teeth into.

We hope that the same vibrant and friendly environment we have worked hard to create in the cafe will also be evident on the website so that you can’t help but keep coming back for more!

Thanks for joining us for the ride. We hope to see you for coffee soon!
